PROWORK CONSULTANTS offer a comprehensive range of injury prevention and management services, which can be tailored according to our client’s needs.

Prowork Consultants offer rehabilitation services that assess the needs of injured workers for the purpose of developing a strategic plan of action required to facilitate with their safe and early return to the workplace.

Prowork Consultants supports the belief that maintaining and/ or resuming a normal life is beneficial to individuals after an injury. The goal of rehabilitation is to minimise the impact of injury to all relevant parties involved. Our service delivery approach endeavours to implement the most effective options to ensure the earliest, safest and most appropriate RTW plan for the injured worker.

We provide our clients with innovative and results driven outcomes. As our performance data for 2007 indicated, we were able to achieve an exceptional 97.4% success rate of returning injured workers to gainful employment with their pre-injury employer. At Prowork Consultants, we are committed to maintaining regular communication with key stakeholders involved in the rehabilitation process to ensure a proactive and individualised approach.

Prowork Consultants aims to utilise its competitive advantage and specialise in the area of same job same employer. In consultation with all relevant parties, Prowork Consultants will aim to determine the need for a vocational assessment early in the rehabilitation process, without compromising the hierarchy of RTW. Prowork Consultants recognises the importance of timely intervention as a critical success factor. If it is determined that an injured worker will require vocational assistance with finding employment with a new employer, referral of the injured worker to a specialist in vocational assessment and rehabilitation will be implemented.

Workplace assessments provide valuable information in relation to the injured workers tasks (i.e. proposed suitable duties and what is required at pre-injury capacity) to assist with return to work planning.

The assessment identifies the critical physical, environmental, cognitive and psychosocial demands of the injured workers duties. Where requested, the information obtained is used to develop a graduated RTW – Suitable Duties (SD) Plan in consultation with the treating doctor, employer and injured worker. By having a structured / graded RTW – SD Plan in place, it provides all parties with a direction / goal to work towards.

Workplace assessments are performed as part of the initial assessment in cases that have been referred for case management services. This service may also be used as a one off assessment.

Poor workstation design and work practices put worker’s at risk for injury and can lead to reduced productivity. Prowork Consultants can assist organisations with identifying and reducing the potential risk of injury within the workplace by conducting an ergonomic assessment of the workstation and work environment.

The assessment examines the relationship between the worker and their job requirements, taking into consideration the worker's stature and their ability to manage with the work tasks, tools and environmental demands.

The report provided outlines the potential risks of the job and work environment. It includes cost effective recommendations for improving workstation design (e.g. the purchasing of ergonomically correct equipment) and work practices.

Functional capacity evaluations performed at Prowork Consultants include both standardised and non-standardised outcome measures designed to assess an injured worker’s existing and potential functional work capacity. They are performed by Occupational Therapists / Physiotherapists specialised in evaluating an injured worker’s performance against identified work related criteria.

Functional capacity evaluations are a valuable tool in assisting treating and assessing medical practitioners with making informed decisions regarding a realistic RTW goal. Furthermore, functional capacity evaluations can assist with the upgrade of medical restrictions / certificates where appropriate, thereby allowing for progression within RTW plans.

Up to one third of all work related injuries in Australia occur during manual handling tasks. In some instances, the injured worker never achieves full recovery or may require an extended period of rehabilitation to facilitate with their return to optimal functional capacity.

‘Part of an employer's responsibility to provide workers with a safe and healthy workplace involves the provision of training and information about safe working practices. In relation to reducing the risk of a manual handling injury, this might involve providing training and information on correct work methods, such as lifting techniques and the correct use of mechanical aids’.

(Source: The National OHS Commission website - www.nohsc.gov.au under ‘Manual Handling’)

Prowork Consultants offers a superior manual handling course based on sound and accepted health education principles. Digital photography of tasks specific to the worksite may be incorporated into the course material to enhance the learning experience. The content of the manual handling course is able to be tailored according to the needs of an organisation. Furthermore, employers also have the option of purchasing copyrights to the course, thereby enabling presentation of the material by employees from within the company. This is a feasible option for larger companies wishing to provide training to their employees over a number of different worksites.

Occupational dictionaries are valuable resources in providing treating medical practitioners / allied health professionals with accurate information pertaining to the critical physical demands of tasks performed at a particular worksite. Treating medical practitioners are able to utilise this information to assist with the establishment of a realistic RTW goal and to also make informed decisions on an injured worker’s fitness to carry out specific duties (with modifications where necessary) as part of their RTW plan. This not only reduces downtime and loss of productivity for the employer but also assists with minimising overall worker’s compensation premiums and lost time injuries as treating medical practitioners have a greater understanding of the workplace and the availability of suitable duties to assist with the RTW process.

Occupational dictionaries can also potentially be used for pre-employment screening purposes, to assist with the determination of whether candidates are suitable for the position in which they are applying for given the physical requirements of the job.

Treatment using Work Related Activity is a valuable service in upgrading an injured worker's functional status to allow for progression within RTW plans. It is used as a strategy for improving RTW rates and preventing long term disability and chronic pain. It is a most useful tool in a secondary intervention plan where workers with sub-acute soft tissue injuries have not progressed as expected in their recovery.

At Prowork Consultants, we understand that every worker is unique. We believe that in order to achieve the most effective outcome, we must identify and address the many and complex issues impacting on the individual's return to work.

Our treatment programmes are now delivered using a multidisciplinary approach. We utilise the expertise of Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Rehabilitation Counsellors/Psychologists and Occupational Therapists to tailor our programmes specific to the needs of the injured worker.

The initial assessment may include:

- A workplace review by an Occupational Therapist to determine the critical demands of the injured workers job (where one has not been completed previously);
- A physiotherapist assessment of the injured workers current functional capabilities in relation to these demands;
- A psychological assessment to determine if any psycho-social barriers to the injured workers recovery are present;
- A case conference with the injured worker, assessing therapists and an Exercise Physiologist to tailor the most appropriate treatment plan for optimal recovery.

Our treatment programmes incorporate a cognitive behavioural approach, targeted education and graded physical activities/excercises to assist clients return to their usual work and daily activities.
